Niki Hannover in collaboration with the Art Encounters Foundation in Timisoara is launching the second edition of an international artistic residency exchange for artists based in Hannover.
Jonas Monib lives and works in Hanover, Germany. He studied at the State Academy of Art and Design in Stuttgart and at Kyushu Sangyo University in Fukuoka, Japan. He creates installations using sculpture, video and photography. The installations often evoke a fragile sense of nostalgia that is deconstructed and confronted with a present of continuous crisis. In the process, myth and reality are blurred and once-lost connections are recreated in fractured visual storylines using facts, notes, quotations, opinions and autobiographical fragments.
The project Jonas is developing during his residency at the Art Encounters Foundation will focus on the failed promise of a better future and prosperity for all. His proposed installation will consist of two portable screens suspended from balloons, a Plexiglas palanquin, and a triptych of advertising photos.
Jonas Monib's project will be presented from 28.10. to 4.11.2023 at the ISHO Pavilion.
ART ENCOUNTERS FOUNDATION TIMIȘOARA
The vision of the Art Encounters Foundation is to become a meeting point for people, ideas, cultures, communities, and to create an open platform for contemporary art in connection with both the city of Timișoara and the global art scene. The public is encouraged to explore the field of art and to engage in a permanent knowledge exchange.
The foundation’s activities are carried out over the following main directions: organizing the Art Encounters biennial in Timișoara and the exhibition program taking place at its permanent space in Timișoara or other places; fostering education and audience development through public programs; developing a solid series of artistic and curatorial residencies.
